ENABLER

This is a company that does not employ a confirmation loop when people sign up for a mailing list with them.

OFFENDER

These are the individuals who have either mistakenly or purposefully given an incorrect email address to an ENABLER, or has had their correct email address misread or incorrectly transcribed by the ENABLER.

SEVERITY

There are several levels of severity of potential privacy invasion and identity theft possibilities with the offenses listed on this site. Here’s what they mean:

  • low Offending email adds victim to list, but allows easy unsubscribe from list, but does not acknowledge offense
  • med Offending email contains enough information that someone can use the enabler’s website to gain access to the offender’s account and make changes or cancel the account.
  • high Offending email contains enough information that someone can contact the enabler’s customer service and engage in potential abuse, but does not allow access to the offender’s account and make changes or cancel the account – nor to correct the problem.
